Supporting Devon Air Ambulance

MMG are delighted to announce that they have nominated the Devon Air Ambulance Trust as their ‘charity of the year’.

MMG employees were asked to put forward names of charities they would like to support. Everyone in the company then voted for one of these proposed charities, of which the Devon Air Ambulance received the highest number of votes.

MMG will be supporting the charity by donating monies raised through fund raising events over the course of the year. Previous events the company have organised included sponsored ‘weight loss’ initiatives, Christmas quizzes and fairs. Donations from these events went to various charities including Sparks Children’s Medical Research Charity, National Blind Children’s Charity, Jeans for Genes, Children in Need and Breast Cancer Campaign.

The Devon Air Ambulance Trust is the charity which raises the funds to keep 2 emergency Air Ambulances flying. This is no small feat as each and every year they have to raise in the region of £4 million to keep both of the helicopters airborne. If you would like to find out more about the charity check out their website at www.daat.org

Glaswegian accents - hard to understand?

An article was published by the BBC on 15th October, featuring a London based translation company that was recruiting translators to interpret the Glaswegian accent! To read the full article click on this link:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8308288.stm

MMG work very closely with the Scottish Court Service and have, for many years, transcribed a range of recordings containing a host of different Scottish accents and dialects. We use highly experienced transcribers for this work who are all from and based in Scotland, so fully understand the culture, dialect and accents.

For further information on our Court Transcriptions click on the link below:

http://www.mendipmediagroup.com/court-transcriptions/

Police overwhelmed with paperwork

According to an article written in The Daily Express on 3rd October 2009, police officers are spending less than 6 hours a week patrolling the streets. To read the full article click on the following link:

http://www.dailyexpress.co.uk/posts/view/131738/Bobbies-on-beat-just-1-hour-a-day

At MMG, we transcribe witness and PACE regulated interviews for a large number of constabularies in the UK and overseas and are working with BigHand digital dictation software suppliers on an exciting new project which will enable police officers to reduce the time they spend on paperwork.

This service will work using the Blackberry phone, whereby officers dictate their notes into the phone using the BigHand digital dictation software. The dictations can then be sent by secure methods to MMG for transcription which will then be returned almost immediately. By outsourcing the transcription of the dictations to experienced transcribers, police officers will be able to reduce the time they spend typing up their notes themselves and be able to concentrate on more important matters.

We understand that the content of the police interviews and dictations can be highly sensitive so we ensure that these recordings are only transcribed in-house at our offices, by security cleared and experienced transcribers. We never outsource overseas and will only send to our freelance transcribers if given the go ahead by our clients.

To find out more about our police transcription services click on the link to the left.
